A professional responsibility course with regard to income tax preparation. The seminar touches upon the sources of professional responsibility with regard to tax return preparation (i.e. circular 230, §6694, §7525 etc). James Everett will discuss the definition of “preparer”- both signing and non-signing. He will discuss return positions and substantial authority versus reasonable basis (and when disclosure is required). He will also cover what can be relied upon when preparing the return (client info, 3rd party, other advisors etc) and get into the preparer penalty under §6694 and denial to practice in the eFile program.
